About

"Alboreá" (the title refers to Andalusian wedding music) is the debut album of Renaud Garcia-Fons' quartet, formed with Yves Torchinsky, who, like Renaud, is a member of the Double Bass Orchestra, and drummer and singer Jacques Mahieux. What makes this quartet unique is its use of two double basses—one primarily for accompaniment, and the other, Renaud's, designed as a solo instrument.

The quartet's music is mainly inspired by the Mediterranean, but also incorporates a melting pot of various cultural influences: flamenco, new-musette, Spanish, African, Greek, and South American music. The quartet’s approach is light and subtle, yet allows for great virtuosity. Rooted in European folk traditions, this exciting music also draws on groove and jazz improvisation.
