About

Renaud García-Fons and Derya Türkan met in 2006 when they played together with Kudsi Erguner, the famous Turkish Ney player.

​

After all these years, the desire to record together again came to them as an obvious decision.

​

Their music, nourished by Eastern, Mediterranean, and Latin influences, is inspired by the lyrical expression and deep singing of the Maqam Oriental tradition and the Cante Jondo Andalusian style. On this album, they perform their own compositions.

​

Their two instruments, the smallest and the largest of bowed instruments, find a natural complement of timbres and playing techniques, producing together the effect of a true orchestra.

​

Renaud and Derya have a deep desire to move beyond the traditional expression of their instruments to discover new musical, rhythmic, refined, and poetic spaces together.

​

Clearly, this duo invites us to a moment of great emotion and musical fervor with their entirely unique instrumentation.
