About

Renaud Garcia-Fons is one of the most famous double bass virtuosos in the world. For over twenty years, he has approached the double bass as a solo instrument, crafting his own technique and developing a language that is entirely his own. His unique style is immediately recognizable.

He has released fifteen albums as a leader and composer, producing music at the crossroads of world music, jazz, classical music, and traditional music.

Following the success of the 2014 album Silk Moon, recorded in duo with kemence player Derya Turkan, and the creation of pieces for string quartet for France Musique as part of the Alla Breve productions, Renaud Garcia-Fons wanted, with Le souffle des cordes, to go even further in the meeting of classical and traditional instruments. "Crossover" in its essence, this project combines both composition and improvisation, bringing together string instruments from various regions of the world.

The original repertoire, composed by Renaud Garcia-Fons, is the result of a genuine writing process that respects the authenticity of the playing, style, and culture of these instruments from different traditions.

Derya Turkan and Serkan Halili represent Ottoman and Middle Eastern music, while Kiko Ruiz on flamenco guitar injects the fervor of flamenco rhythms and its lyricism.
Florent Brannens, Amandine Ley, Aurélia Souvignet, and Nicolas Saint-Yves, all members of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, build the entire repertoire based on Renaud Garcia-Fons's writing and bring the rigor of Western chamber music.
As for Renaud Garcia-Fons's double bass, a fully-fledged solo instrument, with its multiple timbres and various playing techniques, it serves as a true "link" between these different musical worlds, as well as between written and improvised music.
