The journey begins at the southernmost point of Spain, progresses along the northern Mediterranean coast until it reaches the Bosphorus, turns south toward Lebanon, then Egypt, and winds along the North African side of the Strait of Gibraltar. There is nothing touristy about this journey, but simply the desire to be propelled along this path by music, the connecting link of all the peoples of the Mediterranean! I began each composition with a simple melody, sometimes solemn, sometimes joyful, dance-like or meditative – always with the idea of evoking an emotion, a fragrance, or an atmosphere. At each stage, a new rhythm, a new orchestration, images, fragments from different surfaces of still lifes. This journey is an exploration of the chain that connects the East to the West in the sense of the forgotten Aljamiado language to which the first piece is dedicated.
