About
"La Linea del Sur is the desire to weave a connection between the different musical universes that shaped my childhood: the music from the Mediterranean, Latin America, flamenco, and jazz. The deep love I have for these genres naturally led me to explore the paths of an imaginary South, a South that would unite multiple musical roots, all of which share the search for a deep song.
Through the compositions, the accordion, flamenco guitar, percussion, and of course the double bass embody the instruments of the journey. At times they act as singers, at others as accompanists. Our instruments move between intimate expression and the sound of an orchestra.
Esperanza Fernandez, a great voice of flamenco, is our guest for three songs. She brings a unique contribution to music that pushes the boundaries of Andalusia all the way to the New World. The lyrics are inspired by the mystical Persian poet Rûmi. They evoke the pure and loving soul, in love with freedom.
This album is organized like a collection of short stories: each of the eleven compositions is a chronicle of this dreamt South, without borders. The photos by Javier Arcenillas, with their mystery and intensity, accompanied me throughout the writing and creation of this album."
Renaud GARCIA-FONS : five-string double bass
